Sherlock Apron Set!

Another Craftster Swap !
This time it was "Holmes for the Holidays".
I love BBC Sherlock and that was the theme, all Sherlockian wonderfulness was included actually...but I have a super soft spot for the BBC show.

My partner stated in her questionnaire she would like something wearable so I opted to do an apron/hot pad set.
(The hot pads will appearing in a post here soon. This post is all about the apron)

I mashed up about 4 different aprons I found on the Internet and for the basic shape made a freezer paper pattern of an apron I already had.

Oh, and guess what?
The apron is reversible!

First the Sherlock side:
I found this fabric at JoAnns. It was so reminiscent of Sherlock's apartment wallpaper I about squealed in the store!

The second side is Moriarty!
I loved the little pin dots on the black fabric. Subtle, yet stylish...like our Moriarty.

The pockets for each side I pulled off with my "go to" fabric markers.

The bottom skirt has box pleats and for not doing too many of those in my life, turned out pretty good.

I think Mrs. Hudson would be proud!

Ice Cream Pint Cozies!

Will's Christmas present for his preschool teachers...
Ice Cream Pint Cozies!
The stitching is done with "free motion machine embroidery" which is kind of a new thing for me.
It was so fun and zen, I think I'll be doing quite a bit more in the near future.

I plan to grab some Cold Stone Creamery Gift Cards to go with the gift so the cozies can keep something cozy.

I really like using a small hairband for the rubber band. They come in such fun colors and do the job they were meant to do.

Anybody have a favorite flavor?
At Cold Stone, my faves are Coffee or Pumpkin.
My add in is oreos!!!!
Mmmm, ice cream.

New Plates!

For my 9 year anniversary (which is pottery in case you were curious) the husband wrote on a post-it then stuck said sticky paged miracle to one of the kids plates.
The post-it read:
"Should we get new plates?"
We should and we did!
At first, I wanted to go all fun Cath Kidston. But then I got overwhelmed with trying to find exactly what I wanted AND have the plates be dishwasher/microwave safe.

I felt like the pickiest person ever, and gave myself a headache.
I took the attitude instead to go basic white and then go for fun with accessories.

So off to Target I went!
We like to roll fancy around here.

A bonus that's occurred with the new plates is Morgan WANTS to eat off of them. I'm so ready to get rid of the non-stacking-well plastic plates the kids use. They have their use for sure, but I so like things to stack nicely. My hang-up....maybe I need some help?

Thank you Lee for a wonderful 9 years!
You are....awesome!
(bit of a private joke there, couldn't resist)

Crafty Morgan Turkey Day

Miss Morgan decided everyone needed some Turkey Plates and Napkins on Thanksgiving this year.
We swiped some paper plates from my dad (who always has some on hand) and went to Turkey Town!
She was so proud of her work and everyone was happy to know they had a special place to sit!

Big Blanket DONE!!!

So in my previous post "Starting to Look Like a Thing" , I showed a peek of
the beginning of my blanket.

I finished it!

It's pretty long. What I failed to take into consideration was I was using worsted
used more of a sport weight.
It didn't help the situation when I added about 70 stitches across to accomodate
for a queen size bed.
Hers was for a "full".

It's going to be a comfy thing for sure, and will totally keep my feet
nice and toasty at night!

I opted to add a fun border.
As long and weird as it may be,
I am so very happy with how my big fat granny stripe blankie turned out!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

HURRICANE SANDY CRAFTING

We all have hearts and sometimes they break for people you don't even know.
This happened to me after seeing all the devastation in the aftermath of this most recent weather "event".

I wanted to craft SOMETHING for these people, because that is where I believe my talents lie.

I first went to make it better: craftalong for sandy relief and started crocheting and sewing fleece like crazy. Then on the day I was to ship I went to the site for the shipping address.....but alas there was a deadline date added that I wasn't aware of.

Not to be too disheartened, I did some searching as the crafty goods were going to be donated no matter what may. (I'm really not typing in my normal inner voice today...seems kind of flowery wordage....oh well run with it!)

I came across Socks for Sandy which benifits more New Jersey. With each passing day I become more and more impressed with Gov. Christy! (He was genius on Saturday Night Live Weekend Update BTW)

So, here are the hats and scarves and neckwarmers I've crafted. They also have a list of new things (underware, pajamas, and the like) which I'll be sending along as well.

I felt so good while crafting this. I think a New Year's Resolution may be to do more charitible crafting......

A Wee Bit O' Autumn

Every year I take the kids to this amazing pumpkin patch nearby called "HAY! By George".

Great name, I know!

What's even better than the name is the payment is on the honor system. They have this drop box for the money, so there's no one pestering you wondering why you are taking a million pictures but only leaving with one pumpkin.
I usually leave more than the listed suggestion price...mainly for the hassle-free environment.

Here's a sampling of this years pumpkin love...

And then we got home and of course the carving had to begin immediately!

Success! We made it through another year and everyone's smiling...even pumpkin guy.

Ninjago Hats!

Another christmas present checked off my "to make" list. Hooray!
These are for my Willster and my nephew who, along with us all, are digging Lego in a big bad way.

The Black Ninja is named Cole, and his elemental spinjitzu power is Earth. I choose to crochet Cole because Will wanted to be both Cole AND Jay (blue ninja) for Halloween.
He dressed as Jay, so I thought I would throw him some Cole love for christmas.

Watch Cole get his groove on!

Another First!

In my last post I had used the blogger app for the first time. It went well, in fact it's how I'm posting this post too!
Well, last night I downloaded Instagram and took my first picture.
Aren't my shoes cute?
I've been finding all sorts of shoes I forgot I had lately. This particular pair I've had for close to a decade.

Just a test

So I'm just testing a post off my phone.
I thought I would give the blogger app for android a try, whilst outside with Weezer the dog.
So far, so good and the only thing to report is my hands are COLD!
PS
Brave came out on dvd today!
YAY!

Oh, but I do love my minivan!

Hoop I stitched for Lee's birthday

I've just got to say I love my minivan!
I know there are some moms out there who are very proud of the fact they made it through without one, but I'm a fan.
I get to sit high up off the road, it's a more smooth ride than our old car, and room to pile the wagon and bikes in the back.

She got some fixit love this week.
We just got the antilock brakes and Will's door fixed. They changed the oil. Oh, and it's clean.
Super clean.
Both outside AND inside!

I have a feeling the old van and I are going to be spending a great deal of time together in the coming years and I want to really "fun up" the inside. I'm thinking of crafting up some seat covers for sure. The sun can sure heat up those leather seats!
Oooo perhaps a bunting might be in order!!!
I'm open to ideas....
